Victorian clothing, top hats, and hyper intelligent raptors

Pyro Thinking of his Dastardly Plan

After a three day party that was Clockwork Con; ended. First and foremost, I would like to say that Alex, the founder of Clockwork Con, can throw one hell of a shindig from Comedy and Magic Show to Burlesque to Dance to Concerts and that was just in the evenings.

On the merry old day of Friday I beamed down Great Hall of Clockwork Con I immediately felt out of place in the t-shirt. The amount of people that dressed up to come to this was much higher than expected. In my opinion, for the duration of the con, no fewer than 98% of the patrons were in full accoutrements; Steampunk Gear. I rarely came across a regular t-shirt. I immediately went to the vendor room and saw Silver Leaf Costumes and his fine display. His clothes are all high quality and I believe well worth the price.  I found a vendor in the back corner called Ravenworks and was immediately set up in a very simple yet dashing outfit.  After that I was all set for my three days of the Con.

Next, I was off I went to with Kaet to a Steampunk Gaming panel which was about cupcakes? Well, not really, it was about Steampunk themed games. That’s where we were introduced to what looks like a fun and entertaining game called Tephra developed by Cracked Monocle. Those guys were amazingly funny and were a pretty cool group to talk too.

After the wonderful panel of Steampunk Gaming; I went to go to the “Look it’s a Mime” which had Automatons , Sixpence the mime, and Steam Powered Giraffe hosting. This panel was more about the history of the mime but it was still pretty interesting. I learned that clowns are just a more vocal, creepier versions of mimes. (and both are still creepy too me) Both groups also explained there origin stories; like Sixpence and Mr. Saturday are dimension- time jumping Gentlemen for hire and Steam Powered Giraffe are Automatons (like Androids but Better) created long ago.

The last panel I went to for the day was “Monsters, Dragons and Dinosaurs: The creatures of steampunk.” I believe this panel can be summed up in one story:

One of the captains was strolling through Ireland going to a pub. As he passed by, a man flew out the window. Upon further investigation, he found that that man spoke to some hyper intelligent, very arrogant Velociraptors in their native tongue. Which is a no-no to velociraptors; so a fight broke out.

(As you can imagine; reaching for a gun is a helluva lot slower than having your weapons grown into you. Raptors have claws you know. But you get the point!) When you add dinosaurs, cryptozoology and many non-human species into the steampunk formula you get instant Epicness.

The first night was topped off with a Comedy and Magic Show than a Burlesque show. The comedy showed featured the likes of Mr. Saturday and Sixpence, as well as a Cut, Thrust and Run. The entire show was fantastic. Cut, Thrust and Run were hilariously funny and made sure a good time was had by all. This was followed by a fantastic Burlesque show; which if a good time wasn’t had yet, then it would certainly happen then. And well, I left near shortly before the dance started since I was growing tired and found a nearby tree to sleep in since I was way to tired to teleport back to the moon.
